Ingrown toenail surgery in Battersea

If an ingrown toenail keeps coming back, nail surgery is designed to stop the problem edge regrowing. It is carried out here at the clinic under local anaesthetic by our HCPC-registered podiatrists. £600 for one toe or £800 for two, with a dressing pack and two follow-up appointments included.

Is nail surgery right for me?

Nail surgery is usually considered when an ingrown toenail keeps returning, when infection around the nail keeps coming back, or when trimming and routine care no longer bring lasting relief. It can also help with involuted (curved) or thickened nails that press into the skin. Your podiatrist will assess the toe first and will only recommend surgery where it is suitable for you.

What happens on the day

The appointment takes about an hour. Your podiatrist numbs the toe with a local anaesthetic, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. The section of nail causing the problem is removed (occasionally the whole nail), and the nail root is treated to help stop that section growing back. The toe is then dressed. Your toe will stay numb for a few hours, so please arrange to get home without driving.

Recovery and aftercare

Plan to rest with your foot raised for the rest of the day. Your price includes two follow-up appointments to check healing and change the dressing, and we will give you clear aftercare advice to take home. Healing time varies from person to person, so your podiatrist will talk you through what to expect for work, sport and footwear.

Prices

Nail surgery costs £600 for one toe or £800 for two toes. The price includes the procedure, local anaesthetic, one dressing pack and two follow-up appointments. Your podiatrist will confirm that surgery is right for you before starting, and will tell you if anything about your case would change the price. If you have diabetes or circulation problems, or are pregnant, please tell us when you book so we can plan your care safely.

Common questions

Nail surgery FAQs

Does nail surgery hurt?

The toe is numbed with local anaesthetic, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. Some soreness is normal once the anaesthetic wears off, and we will advise you on simple pain relief.

Will the nail grow back?

Treating the nail root is designed to stop the problem section regrowing, and for most people it does not return. Occasionally it does grow back and needs treating again. Your podiatrist will explain this before you decide.

How long is recovery?

Healing time varies from person to person. Your two follow-up appointments let us check the toe is healing well, and we will advise you on when to return to work, sport and normal footwear.

Can children have nail surgery?

We regularly see children with ingrowing toenails. Whether surgery is suitable depends on your child and the problem, so we will assess them gently and explain every option to you both.

I have diabetes. Can I have nail surgery?

Diabetes and circulation problems affect how the foot heals, so your podiatrist will assess you carefully before recommending surgery. Please tell us about any medical conditions and medication when you book.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book an assessment directly with us online or by calling 020 7228 8383.
