Common foot skin conditions
We treat a range of skin problems affecting the feet, including athlete's foot (an itchy, flaky fungal infection often between the toes), cracked heels (which can become painful or split), chilblains (small, itchy or painful patches that appear in cold weather), and blisters. We also reduce corns and callus, which have their own page. Most of these are straightforward to manage once correctly identified.
How we help
A podiatrist will examine the skin, confirm what is causing the problem, since several conditions can look similar, and recommend appropriate treatment and self-care. That might include treating an infection, reducing and rehydrating dry or cracked skin, advising on footwear and prevention, and giving practical guidance for seasonal problems like chilblains. Where a skin change looks unusual or does not fit a common pattern, we will advise you to see your GP.
Seasonal foot care
Some skin problems peak with the seasons: chilblains and cracked heels are more common in cold, dry weather, while athlete's foot and verrucas often increase in warmer months and around communal pools. We can help you prepare and prevent as well as treat.
